Got Selected-Now I have to act.
During my role as Vice president of an Environmental Youth
NGO, I was chosen one among the 200 youths internationally for a conference to
make action plan for United Nation Nations Millennium Development Goals. After
the conference I initiated a Project to bridge the activities at the grass root
level to the plans of UN to achieve some solid actions toward UN goals. In this process We planned to organise mini- conference to
work further in the action plans I was playing the convener and role and fixed
guest speaker and we invited selected/eminent participants from about 10
institutions from different regions.
The Challenge - I'm not a dead fish
While everything was going on, the venue fixed was cancelled before two days of the conference (It was offered free of charge by one of the Colleges) Now I had exactly 48 hours to fix the issue and could not find any alternatives at this stage I made myself calm for few moments and motivated told myself by telling loudly “I am not a dead fish to sail along the waves but a live fish to reach the destination whatever be the obstacles”.
Solution by team work
With a clear understanding of the situation we had a team and meeting discussed the same and we agreed to hire a hotel and share the expense initially and also look for sponsors who could reimburse the rent. By the end of the day we fixed an alternative venue and I contacted few other sponsors and finally we managed to get sponsors just the day before and preparation works went on till mid night and the event went on successfully with the participation of about 60 candidates who later took many mini-projects in their institutions.

Valuble experince through the crisis
I played a back ground role for the smooth conduct of the
event and all the whole team and participants were benefited .I remained calm
during adverse situation at the same time to took rapid actions to overcome the
situation and used my decision making and negotiation skill to put things
right. Initially the situation looked very difficult and problem seemed almost
impossible to overcome but after the issue was sorted out. I fell very happy and confident .This also
boosted my self-esteem to handle challenging situations and inspire the team
during un-expected crises by remaining cool and take accurate decision achieve
the results
Continuation in
Leicester
This event gave me encouragement to take project further and
motivated me to join the United Nations society and attend various Model UN
conferences. I attended my First Model UN at Nottingham University and got the
Most Media Appreciated Delegate Award. After attending few other MUNs I got the
“Best Delegate Award “at Kingston University Model UN conference at London.
Model UN to Real UN
activities,
With a good Network formed from such activities, I got an
invitation to attend the Annual General Meeting of the United NationsAssociations at London and I Proposed my plans of Using Quality circles and
small teams to engage students for working toward UN goals. This was well
appreciated and I also made pilot project to implement one of the UN goals. After this I also formed 3 teams in different regions to a pilot project which was succesfull in tacking 3 on Uinted Nations Goals. I am
expecting the project to expand globally to form a model for United Nations to
Replicate.
