My Green Journey has Long history , here is a brief about by Green Journey at University of Leicester Through Environmental Volunteering
My motivation for Environmental activitiesI was involved in various environmental and social service project right from my school days. later I joined an Environmental NGO and soon became the Vice- President of the youth wing of the same and I wanted to continue similar activities in UK and decided to volunteer with environment team at University of Leicester. I also wanted to explore my hidden skills in a practical setting and use my spare time in something good. I also fount volunteering is a way of giving back to the society .I call it as PSR (Personal Social Responsibility) like CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). I didn't have any specific expectation in the beginning but it created many unexpected opportunities such as Invitation attend Harvard US India Initiative conference, Lead a Project Related to United Nations Millennium Development Goals, Facilitate Quality Circle Projects
A A brief about Green activities in Leicester
I use to volunteer during weekends and sometime during free slots during the week days. Volunteering acted like a kind of Re-charge or unwinding for me to do well in my other academic and course related tasks. I was involved in two long term projects (Carbon Foot printing in Schools and Green Impact project) with the environment team and few other short term projects as well.
C Carbon Foot printing in Schools: This project is directly related to the Leicester's Goal of " Cutting 60% Co2 by 2020" by educating the school children about Carbon foot printing and making the school reduce their carbon emission level at the end..We worked as a team
from creating the content to performign carbon audit in
schools. I conducted the course in a school along with the 3 other collegues and created
Green awareness to about 40 students in 2 months also made 8 students
participate in the carbon audit. As the result
of the project the school was able to reduce its carbon foot print by about 8% and also this one hour teaching to kids during week day refreshed me and it gave real sense of satisfaction when I found the transformation in the mind set to the kids .I was extremely happy to see the report that the project reduced the carbon foot print by about 8% and the project was short listed for finalist in Prestigious Green Gown Awards.
G Green Impact Project-The first of It's kind in our department : Green Impact is a project in which students and staff work together to green their campus by working specific objectives . At the beginning there was neither a previous team nor a staff contact for this project in the school of Management. This was an opportunity to start a new project in the school. With a trust in my self I initiated the green Impact project in the school of Management along with one my colleague, soon we had a team in place and our MBA Director offered to be the staff contact. As a part of the project we have to make the School achieve 15 green criteria. We did the planing for a about week a and worked on the implementation for two weeks and we completed the project successfully by making the school achieve the first ever Green impact award. The University of Leicester School of Management was recognized as one of the top management schools in the United Kingdom, all though not directly we can say that have some indirect contribution for this .

Most important skills developed ,
I developed good communication skill, Team work, Planning and beyond all these taking up a leadership role in the project gave me a platform to test the skills I learnt in my MBA in safe practical setting. With this tested success in volunteering, now I am confident that, I can handle complex projects in future. Getting Nominated for Student Awards 2013 and winning the “Most Dedicated Volunteer”Award form Environment team adds extra motivation.
